About this experience
For many centuries, this ancient Mediterranean city has attracted many pilgrims: after all, it is here that the relics of Saint Nicholas are kept, revered by both Catholics and Orthodox. On a walk through Bari, you will see the most interesting churches and learn about the history of the city. My goal is to show you that Bari is not only a cult place, but also a lively, interesting, and hospitable city, the second largest after the million-strong Naples in Southern Italy.
What to Expect
Churches of Bari
The historical center is very compact, so our walking tour will not be tiring. In an area of just over one square kilometer, there are about 40 churches, and I will show you the most remarkable ones. You will visit the Basilica of Nicholas the Wonderworker, where his relics are kept, you can touch the miraculous column, and if the tour takes place on Thursday morning, you can attend the Orthodox service if desired.
Overview Tour of the Center
We will stroll through the picturesque historical center, which has preserved its originality like probably no other large city: it is residential and lively, here you can easily enter the wrong door and instead of a cozy restaurant, find yourself in the kitchen with the grandmother-hostess and see how skillfully she makes the local delicacy - orecchiette pasta! During our overview tour, I will tell you the history of the city, about the historical personalities associated with it, of course, about Nicholas the Wonderworker, about the modern life of Old Bari (as the residents of the old town lovingly call their quarter) and some amusing facts. You will also see the majestic Swabian Castle, learn why Santa Claus wears red and white clothes, and why it is always important to carefully read the contracts you sign.
After the tour, you can taste delicious authentic Italian pizza or seafood, go shopping - shopping in Bari is quite decent at reasonable prices, and in the summer go to the beach or just take a walk along the waterfront.
