Without overloading you with dry facts and dates, I will tell the story of the city through plots about incidents with its famous residents. You will also visit the local market, try French pancakes and pies, and get useful information about transport, museums, and events. Nice: history and fates
In the first part of the tour, you will visit Place Massena and hear related spicy facts. I will tell the tragic story of the Opera House, burned to the ground and subsequently restored. Together we will find on one of the cozy streets the oldest map of the city and see what Nice looked like many centuries ago. Then we will go to the market square, which will charm you with its colors and variety of choices. You will be able to try local Socca pancakes made from chickpea flour and Pissaladiere pies with caramelized onions. I will also gladly tell stories of famous people associated with Nice: Paganini, Matisse, Fitzgerald, and even the legendary city robber.
Nice from a bird's eye view
You will see the cathedral of Nice, built in the 17th century, and hear the legend of Saint Reparata. Visit Castle Hill, where the fortress used to stand, and enjoy the freshness of the artificial waterfall near the observation deck. From the hill, you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of old Nice, the port, and the magnificent Promenade des Anglais. Next, I will show you the famous Bellanda Tower, Palais de Justice and the adjacent square, as well as the old hotels built at the peak of the 19th-century tourism boom. To conclude, you will peek into the Church of Jesus and admire the elegant facade of the Lascaris Palace, where the museum of ancient musical instruments is housed.
