About this experience
You will set off on a journey to symbolic places in Azerbaijan's culture and history. First, you will encounter a mysterious mountain resembling a palm: a traditional resting place for travelers. Here you will learn unusual legends and be able to make a secret wish at the sacred Beshbarmag shrine. Afterwards, you will visit the remains of a fortress that not even Alexander the Great could conquer.
What to Expect
Palm-shaped Mountain
120 km to the left of Baku, you will encounter the rocky massif of Beshbarmag. This well-known mountain in Azerbaijan has always been surrounded by folklore and legends, which you will learn about. I will tell you about the mythical creatures inhabiting Beshbarmag, and the origin of its name. Here you will also find the preserved remains of ancient defensive structures that once protected the kingdoms of the Sasanian rulers. And beyond the mountain, you will see the ruins of the ancient city of Khursangala, dating back to the 3rd century BCE.
Wish Fulfillment
Azerbaijanis believe that Beshbarmag is endowed with a sacred gift connected to the holy site located here. You will visit the Pir Khydyr Zunja mosque, where, according to legend, all hopes and desires come true. It is said: 'Go to the mountain, tell it everything, and it will help you'.
Unconquered Fortress
After visiting the local waterfall, you will once again head to the mountains, where at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level, in the forests, lie the ruins of the great fortress of Chirag. For 18 centuries, these walls served as a border checkpoint of the southern part of the Cuban Khanate and warned of approaching enemies. You will hear interesting historical notes about who, when, and why failed to capture this fortress.
