About this experience
Bologna is a city of music and rich creative traditions. Here, Mozart passed a difficult academic exam, the halls of the Archiginnasio Palace echoed with Rossini's works, and the Museum of Music preserves the manuscript of 'The Barber of Seville'. I will take you to the main musical places of Bologna so that you can feel the special atmosphere that permeates the city.
What to expect
- You will see the Basilica of San Petronio, which houses the most important musical chapel in Bologna, founded in the 15th century by Pope Eugene IV. Its rarity is the oldest functioning organ in the world.
- Next, we will move to the Archiginnasio Palace, the first building of the University of Bologna, to the Stabat Mater hall where Rossini's music sounded.
- And finally, we will visit the International Museum of Music. You will see the richest collection of musical instruments and books on the history of music. Among the museum exhibits are the exam paper of the 14-year-old Mozart in the Philharmonic Academy of Bologna, the manuscript of 'The Barber of Seville' by Rossini, and the rarest harpsichord specimen.
You will learn:
- Who was called the 'Italian Mozart'
- Which banquets diplomats and ministers dreamt to attend
- Who first used an orchestral pit
- Why one of the halls of the University of Bologna is called Stabat Mater
