About this experience
Bologna often falls off the beaten tourist path in Italy: most travelers go from Venice to Florence without stops and completely overlook this wonderful city. My goal is not only to introduce you in an engaging way to Bologna, but also to 'unveil' the city for the youngest travelers, so that they would want to come back to Bologna again and again! Rest assured, it's worth it!
I will show you the main sights of the city, tell its history and, to engage the youngest participants of the tour, I will bring along two cheerful guides: the Bolognese heroes of commedia dell'arte - Doctor Balanzone and Fadzolino.
What to Expect
We will meet at the Neptune Fountain monument on the square Piazza del Nettuno, get to know each other a little and head to the Archiginnasio Palace. There we will learn in detail about how students studied in the oldest university in Europe, the University of Bologna, visit the famous anatomical theater and the Stabat Mater hall.
In the Basilica of San Petronio, we will see the world's longest 'meridian' - sundials. Children, and even adults, will be delighted to learn to measure time by them!
Then the picturesque streets of the Old Market will lead us past old sausage, cheese, and fruit stalls - it's the perfect time to talk about where the real homeland of tagliatelle and tortellini is.
Finally, we will pass to greet the two famous leaning towers, and then return to our friend Neptune.
If you wish, I will suggest where you can stop for lunch and taste excellent tortellini! Then, after lunch - on your own - why not climb the Asinelli Tower? Climbing 498 steps, you will be rewarded with a unique view of Bologna. If your family prefers a less active rest - you can return to Piazza Maggiore and take a ride on a fun children's train.
