About this experience
Muscat is truly a unique city, preserving its authenticity. You won't see any skyscrapers here as their construction is prohibited by law. Instead, you will admire the architecture of the Royal Opera House, visit an authentic Eastern market, explore the exquisite interiors of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and learn about his role in transforming Oman.
What to Expect
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. You will explore the interior, made of gray and white marble, study traditional ornaments and gilded mosaics on the domes. You will also see exquisite Swarovski chandeliers and the world's second largest carpet, which took 400 craftswomen 4 years to create.
Amouage perfumery factory. The brand reimagined Arab perfumery art by combining ancient traditions with innovative technologies. The factory is a unique fusion of Eastern and Western traditions, luxury, and avant-garde. You will learn about its history and smell the best fragrances.
Royal Opera House. We will explore the architectural features of the building: Arabic elements blend harmoniously with classical medieval architecture in a modern interpretation. We will discuss the state-of-the-art equipment of the concert hall and outstanding Omani musicians whose performances at this theater are admirable.
Traditional Muttrah Market. What Eastern city can do without a colorful market? Here you will have free time to stroll through authentic trading alleys and explore popular Arabian souvenirs: incense, antique weapons, sandalwood products, essential oils, ceramics, and aromatic Omani coffee. After that, the guide will take you to Muttrah Fort, where you will learn about the history of the Portuguese occupation in the late 16th century and the struggle with the Omani army.
Royal Palace. You will visit the majestic Al Alam Palace located in the square named after Sultan Qaboos. For over 200 years, it has been the residence of the rulers of Oman. You will learn how the palace's appearance changed over time and the role the current Sultan played in transforming Oman from a medieval backward state into a prosperous and modern country.
