Mount Ta Ku, Ke Ga Lighthouse, and Po Shanu Towers: Legacy of Binh Thuan (from Mui Ne)
About this experience
In the Hindu complex, you will discover the history of the Champa civilization and learn how the state developed from the era of Chinese domination to gaining independence. Near one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Southeast Asia, we will talk about the times of French influence. And by the largest reclining Buddha statue in Vietnam – about the spread of Buddhism and its principles.
What to expect
Sacred Mount Ta Ku and the reclining Buddha
First, you will head to one of the most revered places among Buddhists in Vietnam - Mount Ta Ku. You will ascend about 500 meters by funicular, pass through an old Buddhist monastery, and find yourself next to the largest reclining Buddha statue in Vietnam, 49 meters long. Along the way, you will appreciate panoramic views of the jungle from the cable car, hear the legend of the healing monk, and learn about the spread of Buddhism in the country, its main schools, and the basic teaching of Siddhartha Gautama - the Four Noble Truths.
Ke Ga Lighthouse: history of French colonization
The tallest, oldest, and most beautiful lighthouse in Southeast Asia is located on a small rocky island, which you will reach by boat in a few minutes. I will tell you about the intricacies of the tower construction, designed by the French architect Chnavat. And the structure itself will be an illustration of the story of an important part of Vietnam's history from the mid-19th century to the signing of the Geneva Conventions in 1956 when the country was part of the French colonial empire.
Plantations and rice fields
On the way from the mountain to the lighthouse, you will discover picturesque corners of Binh Thuan province: see plantations of "dragon fruit" - pitahayas, rice fields, and salt fields for producing sea salt. You can stop anywhere for a photo break, and I will share general information about agriculture in South Vietnam, which still plays a dominant role in the local economy.
Cham Po Shanu Towers
Ancient structures are one of the key man-made attractions of the province. In the temple complex of the 9-11th centuries, you will learn about the Champa kingdom, which existed in the territory of present-day central and southern Vietnam. I will tell you about the history of the Hindu tribes of Southeast Asia; the traditions, art, and crafts of the Champa people and the displacement of the Cham by the Viets. And also how the state developed from the era of Chinese domination to gaining independence in the 9th century.
