Mount Ta Ku, Ke Ga Lighthouse, and Cham Towers: Binh Thuan's Heritage (from Phan Thiet)
About this experience
At the Hindu complex, you will discover the history of the Champa civilization and learn how the state evolved from the period of Chinese domination to gaining independence. Near one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Southeast Asia, we will talk about the times of French influence. And at the largest reclining Buddha statue in Vietnam - about the spread of Buddhism and its principles.
What to Expect
Sacred Mount Ta Ku and Reclining Buddha
First, you will head to one of the most revered places among Vietnamese Buddhists - Mount Ta Ku. You will ascend to a height of about 500 meters by funicular, walk through an old Buddhist monastery, and find yourself at the largest reclining Buddha statue in Vietnam, 49 meters long. Along the way, you will appreciate panoramic views of the jungle from the cable car, hear the legend of the healing monk, and learn about the spread of Buddhism in the country, its main schools, and the basic teaching of Siddhartha Gautama - the Four Noble Truths.
Ke Ga Lighthouse: History of French Colonization
The tallest, oldest, and most beautiful lighthouse in Southeast Asia is located on a small rocky island, which you will reach by boat in a matter of minutes. I will tell you about the intricacies of the tower's construction, designed by the French architect Chnavat. The structure itself will illustrate a story about an important part of Vietnam's history from the mid-19th century to the signing of the Geneva Convention in 1956, when the country was part of the French colonial empire.
Plantations and Rice Fields
On the way from the mountain to the lighthouse, you will discover picturesque corners of Binh Thuan province: you will see dragon fruit plantations, rice fields, and salt pans for producing sea salt. You can stop anywhere for a photo break, and I will share general information about agriculture in South Vietnam, which still plays a dominant role in the local economy.
Po Shanu Cham Towers
Ancient structures are one of the key man-made attractions of the province. In the temple complex dating back to the 9th-11th centuries, you will learn about the Champa kingdom, which existed in the territory of present-day central and southern Vietnam. I will tell you about the history of the Hindu tribes of Southeast Asia, the traditions, arts, and crafts of the Champa people, and the displacement of the Chams by the Viet people. As well as how the state evolved from the period of Chinese domination to gaining independence in the 9th century.
