What to expect
Modena's 'postcards'
You will visit the heart of the city - the main square of Piazza Grande, where the Cathedral of the 11th century rises majestically. I will tell you why its facade is called the 'stone Bible' and reveal the symbolic meaning of the Christian symbols depicted on it. Next, I will show you Modena's symbol - the graceful Ghirlandina tower. You will enter the Communal Palace, where you will be impressed by the decorated frescoed halls of the 16th-17th centuries and learn the secret of the 'stolen bucket', which is told in the eponymous poem by Alessandro Tassoni.
Ducal Palace and the local market
You will stroll through the streets of the former ghetto and see the magnificent synagogue. You will pass under the city's porticoes and reach the Ducal Palace - a magnificent example of northern baroque architecture. I will tell you about the rule of the Este dynasty, which was forced to leave Ferrara at the end of the 16th century and settle in Modena. Finally, I will introduce you to typical regional products at the local market and reveal the secrets of balsamic vinegar - 'black gold' of Modena.
