About this experience
Only in Florence can you easily immerse yourself in the authentic atmosphere of the Middle Ages, although the city is often called the “Cradle of the Renaissance”. Long before receiving this status, the capital of Tuscany was already known as the richest city in Europe. So do not think of the Middle Ages as only wild customs and inquisitional stakes. I will tell you about the unique architectural monuments built back then, about what urban life was filled with, about the life and customs of the Florentines, so that this era will reveal itself to you from a new, unexpected perspective.
What to Expect
I will provide detailed insights into an era full of contrasts and inspiration. The history of medieval Florence is directly related to the names of Dante and Boccaccio, Cimabue, Giotto, and Arnolfo di Cambio. It was they who gave the world a new vision of literature, painting, and architecture. Without them and the city's active economic growth, there would have been no Renaissance as we know it now. It is no coincidence that the main buildings that are now the city's calling card were erected precisely in the Middle Ages (13th-14th centuries), despite the plague, wars, floods, and internal discord.
You will learn how medieval Florence lived, not only through the prism of the history and creativity of the great Dante. I will help you imagine what everyday life was like, what tragedies unfolded, love stories, who feuded with each other, who had sins with inevitable salvation – in short, I will tell you interesting stories from the lives of the Florentines. They, captured in stone, frescoes, and stained glass adorning the city buildings, will show you the true face of this extraordinary city.
