About this experience
Malta is a tiny island with an incredibly rich history. You will visit two of its capitals: the former and the current one. You will wander through the picturesque winding streets of the Old Towns, see ancient churches, fortresses, and monasteries. I will share the centuries-old history of Mdina and Valletta, talk about the Knights Hospitaller and the Grand Masters. And I will show you viewing platforms with breathtaking views.
What to expect
Mdina - the medieval capital of Malta
We will walk through the narrow streets of Mdina, examining old houses and churches. You will see the Cathedral of St. Paul, climb the mighty ancient bastions, and admire the panorama of Malta. I will explain why since the Bronze Age people preferred to live in the center of the island and on top of the hill, rather than on the coast. How Mdina was founded by the Arabs, reached greatness during Spanish rule, and gradually lost its status as the country's main city under the Knights Hospitaller.
Valletta through the ages
You will walk through the historic center of the city, see the preserved knights' residences, Manuel Theatre, and the Grand Masters' Palace. As well as the cathedral dedicated to St. John the Baptist - the patron saint of the Hospitallers. I will tell you how the knights of this order came to Malta in 1530 and how they defended the island during the siege. In addition, we will visit the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens, which offer a stunning view of the largest harbor in the Mediterranean. We will examine the bastions of the ancient fortress and talk about Malta's urban planning.
