Architectural Epochs of Baku
You will literally drive and walk through the iconic periods in the city's history - their stories will come alive in the old and modern walls of buildings. You will stroll down the medieval streets of Old Baku and the quarters of the tsarist Russia era. You will explore the architecture of the oil boom era (late 19th century - early 20th century), peer into the courtyards of the Soviet era, see extraordinary structures of the 21st century that have become new symbols of the capital, and visit the favorite spots of locals.
Architectural Masterpieces and Their Architects
Discovering Baku from an 'architectural' point of view, you will learn about the invaluable contribution of famous architects to the city's urban development. You will hear about the names of Russian and German architects who worked in Baku. Special emphasis will be placed on the stories of Polish architects: Poles built more than 500 buildings in Baku. Admire the elegant Mukhtarov Palace, known as the 'Palace of Happiness', the Puppet Theater, the Philharmonic, and the luxurious building of Ismailiya. Examine the mansion of Count De Bour, the Baku City Hall, the extraordinary Carpet Museum building, the Opera and Ballet Theater.
