About this experience
There is nothing quite like Balinese temple architecture in Southeast Asia. It will amaze you with its masterful sculptures of deities, intricate carvings, abundance of details, and astonishing harmony with the surrounding landscape. You will visit 4 ancient temples and learn about the history of each. You will also visit a coffee plantation and a viewpoint overlooking Mount Batur.
What to Expect
Batuan Temple. You will explore a traditional Balinese temple from the 11th century and decipher the peculiarities of the island's temple architecture using it as an example. I will explain the different spaces in local temples, what their 'split' gates symbolize, what 'puja' means, and other interesting facts.
Goa Gajah Cave Temple. Another 11th-century sanctuary. Historians still argue to this day whether it belongs to the Buddhist or Hindu heritage. We will walk around the compact temple grounds and admire the ancient stone-carved statues.
Tirta Empul Temple. One of the main temples of the island, known for its bathing pools and exotic garden. You will not only admire them but also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the sacred spring.
Ulun Danu Batur Temple. It is believed to maintain harmony and stability throughout the island. I will tell you about the gods to whom the temple is dedicated.
Additionally, along the way, we will stop at a viewpoint overlooking Mount Batur and Lake Batur. We will also visit coffee and cocoa plantations.
