About this experience
Kandy is a sacred Buddhist city, known as the Great Temple by locals. Apart from the iconic Temple of the Tooth relic, the city is famous for being the last kingdom of Sri Lanka. You will learn about the rich history of Kandy and along the way, you will see many colorful places: spice gardens, tea plantations, a botanical garden with hundreds of orchid species. You will also visit an elephant nursery where wild elephants are cared for.
What to expect
- Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where they help wild elephants. You will observe how elephants are fed and taken for walks. And you can feed the animals with fruits or bathe them in the river.
- Spice Garden. You will admire the variety of Sri Lankan plants and learn which ones are used for Ayurveda, local cosmetics, or medicinal preparations.
- Tea Factory. You will see the production of Ceylon tea and taste several varieties.
- Lunch at a restaurant with a buffet. You will be offered both familiar European food and local dishes. And you will also be introduced to the traditional Sri Lankan meal.
- Royal Botanical Gardens. You will stroll among blooming orchids, spices, and medicinal plants, lush palms, and green bamboo.
- Kandy - a city protected by UNESCO. You will see the picturesque lake in the heart of Kandy and visit the Temple of the Tooth relic - one of the main places for Buddhist pilgrims. You will learn why the temple is so important to believers.
The return journey from Kandy will take about 4.5 hours. Along the way, we will stop at special places to taste seasonal fruits of Sri Lanka.
