About this experience
Exarchia is a 'city within a city'. Contradictory, creative, and incredibly free. Here, life boils and ideas of the Greek intelligentsia are born. Bright cafes and examples of street art are everywhere. Athens cannot be fully understood without Exarchia. I will explain how this leftist district has influenced the city's history and its modern significance.
What to Expect
National Technical University of Athens. It is the center of student life in Exarchia. In the 70s, an uprising took place here that defined the course of modern Greek history. You will learn the details on the tour.
Exarchia Square. Here, the walls speak for the people. I will show you the graffiti that reveals the past and present of the district. I will tell you how Exarchia has evolved and what social-political changes it has faced.
National Library of Greece. You will hear about its history and discover its significance today. You will also learn about the 'Athenian trilogy'.
