About this experience
Despite the fact that the city is not even 650 years old yet, Herceg Novi has undergone a lot throughout its history. It has seen Bosnians, Turks, Spaniards, Venetians, French, and Austrians, changed rulers, and became surrounded by fortresses. I will introduce you to the unique past of this Black Sea city, take you through its streets on fascinating conversations, show you powerful fortresses, and beautiful views.
What to expect
Herceg Novi, its past and present
We will walk through narrow streets, and I will tell you where the fortress walls of old Herceg Novi went, how many defensive structures were in the city, and where the underground passage between them was located. You will find out where the railway was and what is now in the station building. We will also count how many steps there are in the city.
Two fortresses with a luxurious panorama
Next, we will drive to the fortress of Španjola, located on a hill above Herceg Novi. In essence, it is a small separate town behind powerful walls built in the 16th century. Nearby, we will see the Austro-Hungarian military fortress from the early 20th century. Atmospheric shots against the background of the bay, the city, and its surroundings are guaranteed here.
Mount St. Elijah, landscapes and a bit more history
For dessert, we will go to places that offer breathtaking views of Herceg Novi, Luštica, the mouth of the Bay of Kotor, and the Croatian coast of the Adriatic. At the top, there is a small church, near which Napoleon's soldiers are buried. I will explain why their earthly journey ended exactly here.
