About this experience
What do you know about the legendary King Herod, who is attributed to the massacre of the infants of Bethlehem? The heroic fortresses of Herodion and Masada arose thanks to this ruler. I will tell you about the intricate fate of Herod and the history of two cities, and you will visit the royal mausoleum, ride the funicular, and enjoy the desert landscapes of the Dead Sea coast.
What to expect
What the fortresses will tell you
Our tour will start in Jerusalem, from where we will head to Herodion - the only place that still bears the notorious name of King Herod the Great. You will learn about the fate of this ruler, compare this information with Christian tradition, and see the mausoleum that is traditionally considered Herod's tomb. Further along the road along the Dead Sea coast with its ascetic landscapes, we will go to another city - Masada (its name translates from Hebrew as 'fortress'). To get to the fortress walls themselves, you will have to take the funicular, and you will have the chance to enjoy the views of the sheer cliffs that defended the fortress. There I will tell you about the history of Masada and its connection to the miracles described in the Bible.
Additionally, you can choose to visit the Dead Sea beach, the Monastery of Saint Gerasimos, Qasr El-Yahud, Qumran, or the 'Ahava' cosmetics factory.
