About this experience
Minimum dates and names, the essence of my walk is emotions: author's humor and pearls of past masters. Let's walk through the unique streets of Gyumri, discuss its unusual architecture, peek into houses with history, and remember famous people associated with our city. Three to four hours will be enough to cover the most interesting and 'tasty' in the cultural capital of Armenia.
What to expect
Unusual appearance of Gyumri
If we look at the architecture, Gyumri lags behind many cities in many criteria. For example, it lacks imperial grandeur and scale altogether. But there is something that makes Gyumri the first on the entire planet - the number of buildings made of black natural stone. There are interesting references to European styles in the face of classicism and Art Nouveau of the 19th-20th centuries. And the highlight - a local style that can be seen only in Gyumri.
Beyond the facades
Every building has a soul - it is its history expressed in different genres: comedy, tragedy, mysticism, etc. Let's admire not only the beautiful 'wrapping' but also see what interesting filling the local houses have, where museums, author's galleries, workshops, and souvenir shops are now located.
Famous personalities
Who did Gyumri give to the Soviet Union and the world in such a short period of the recent history and whose city will we wander through? Actor Frunzik Mkrtchyan, director Edmond Keosayan (film 'The Elusive Avengers'), sculptor Sergey Merkurov, mystic George Gurdjieff... And here was born actress Svetlana Svetlichnaya, but we are not to blame for that;)
