About this experience
We invite you to an immersive journey through Gyumri, which will help you delve into the past and present of the city, its history, architecture, and culture. You will visit the houses-museums of writers and actors, art galleries, and modern fashion clusters. You will walk through cinematographic locations, visit the ancient church made of black tuff, and see the ancient fortress.
What to Expect
- Church of the Holy Mother of God. You will learn why the locals call it the 'Seven Wounds'. You will decipher the peculiarities of its original architecture and see the five altars intended for followers of different confessions.
- Ovanes Shiraz House-Museum. We will introduce you to the life story of one of the most famous Armenian poets. You will see his personal belongings, manuscripts, and paintings dedicated to him.
- Avetik Isahakyan House-Museum. Another literary landmark in Gyumri. Isahakyan was a talented Soviet poet and prose writer. You will see his study, living room, bedroom, kitchen, and cellar. Antique furniture, a rich personal library, and a wooden child's bed.
- Mger Mkrtchyan Museum. A place dedicated to the great theater and film actor. You will hear about his life, examine the stage costumes, and props from movies.
- Aslamazyan Sisters Gallery. A collection of paintings, graphics, and ceramics by Mariam and Yeranuhi Aslamazyan, important representatives of the Armenian art world of the 20th century.
- Movie Locations Walk. We will walk through the streets where scenes from the films 'Song of Old Days', 'Tango of Our Childhood', 'Happy Bus', and 'A Piece of Paradise' were shot.
- Black Fortress. One of the most unusual structures in the city. You will learn when and under what circumstances the fortress was built and how its role changed over the centuries.
- Tumo Center for Creative Technologies. You will visit a modern educational center for teenagers and see the works of its students.
- Loft. A creative space where you can play local instruments, listen to music, and relax after a busy day.
