About this experience
When in Rome, you can't help but feel that each of us is an heir to a unique culture that has developed over centuries. Let's pay tribute to this feeling: we will drive through the places that call out to us through the ages, touch the great history, but not forget about the moment 'here and now' - we will enjoy walking, observing how modern Rome lives.
What to Expect
History in Stone
You will see corners of ancient Rome, admire the architecture of the Renaissance and Baroque, hiding the works of Raphael, Caravaggio, and Michelangelo. You will hear many legends and true stories about Roman squares, fountains, and stairs: each of them is connected with certain personalities who left a mark in history, whether emperors, merchants, or beggars. You will not miss the Castle of the Holy Angel, the square where the Pope blesses the crowd every Sunday, and many other grand structures and hidden corners of the city.
Time for Pleasures
You will have time to take photos where you want, eat a portion of ice cream, or have a cup of coffee. You will walk through old streets, visit a historic cafe where Nikolai Gogol and many other famous contemporaries used to visit. You will see Rome through their eyes - through the perception of talented writers, artists, and architects, whose ideas were embodied in the marble of palaces, in the paint of oil canvases, and in famous literary works. In these few hours, you will feel the unique charm of the Eternal City.
Route Highlights
Spanish Steps Square
You will learn who came up with the idea to build the Spanish Steps and where the Spaniards and French lived in Rome. You will admire the 'Barcaccia' fountain in the center of the square: I will tell you why it has the shape of a boat and draw your attention to the coat of arms with bees, which is often found in churches and, of course, in the Vatican Cathedral.
Piazza Venezia and Capitoline Hill
This square - the heart of Rome - will open the doors to the ancient world located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill. Here, Ancient Rome was founded, and its history began. I will tell you about it and the time when the reconstruction of the Capitoline Hill was undertaken by the great Michelangelo. You will also enjoy the view of the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. You will hear legends and stories about the emperors of Rome, captivating plots of the turbulent romances of Caesar and Cleopatra, Mark Antony and Cleopatra, Emperor Titus and the daughter of the Jewish king Berenice. You will learn why all roads lead to Rome and which emperor called it the 'Eternal City'.
Pantheon
In the only surviving building of Ancient Rome from the 2nd century, we will talk about the construction and creators of this temple. You will see the tomb of Raphael and learn about the festival associated with the beautiful custom of dropping a multitude of rose petals through the hole in the dome of the Pantheon.
Piazza Navona
A place where a centuries-old history is hidden, filled with important events and intrigues, adorned with legends and passed through the centuries. I will tell you how the square was built on the site of an ancient stadium and how it preserved its shape. You will study the Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini and be transported back to the times when the magnificent Navona turned into a lake, and for the sake of fun, battles were even held on it in the manner of naumachias, ancient Roman water battles, and Italians celebrated the lake festival.
and much more!
We will walk through narrow medieval streets where life is bustling. You will see the city through the eyes of great architects and artists who embodied their dreams in the marble of churches, palaces, and fountains of the Renaissance and Baroque eras. I will also tell you in which basilica Michelangelo was first buried and show you a part of the preserved insula - a multi-story house from the 2nd century with rooms and apartments where ancient Romans lived. How did life flow in imperial times? What did they eat and drink? How did they go to the baths? These and other stories await you on the tour!
