About this experience
This journey awaits you with a concentration of phenomenal phenomena! You will explore the rock drawings and mud volcanoes of Gobustan, the Fire Temple and the burning mountain of the Absheron Peninsula. You will feel like on another planet and experience yourselves heroes of a fantasy movie. And also get acquainted with the life and customs of fire worshipers and learn what secrets the stones keep.
What awaits you
- Gobustan Museum, which presents exhibits telling about primitive life.
- State Reserve - a place where many rock drawings, natural and artificial shelters, as well as primitive engineering structures have been preserved.
- Mud volcanoes. More than 300 out of 700 mud volcanoes on the entire planet are located in Azerbaijan. Here, in Gobustan, the largest part of them is concentrated.
- Fire Temple Ateshgah - a Zoroastrian temple, founded in the 1st century AD and preserved to this day. Pilgrims still come here! The museum exhibits reflect the life of fire worshipers who left the sanctuary at the end of the 19th - early 20th centuries due to the start of oil and gas production.
- Yanardag Complex-Reserve - a natural gas field and eternal flame. Yanar-dag translates from Azerbaijani as 'burning mountain': real fire erupts here on its own and in any weather conditions.
During the excursion, the guide will tell you about ancient rock paintings and oil outlets that characterize Gobustan and Absheron. You will learn what secrets are hidden behind carved stones and rocky shelters and what role these places played in the history and culture of the region.
