About this experience
The deeds of the people of Barcelona, which changed the course of events, the destinies of individuals, and even the landscape and territory of the capital of Catalonia, will forever remain in the memory of the Catalans. On my tour, the landmarks of the Old Town will appear before you not as silent stones, but as witnesses of important events. The Cathedral and the Roman columns, the Alchemist's house and the eternal flame, the Palace of Music and the Royal Square - the history will come alive...
What to expect
Traces of days gone by
Every action in the past echoes in the present. You will learn what the 13 white geese do in the Cathedral and how Saint Eulalia, the patron saint of Barcelona, inspires the Catalans and teaches them to never give up.
The Royal Square holds the history of love and calculation of the royal couple Isabella and Ferdinand, who burned witches, expelled all Jews and Moors from Spain, and sent Columbus on a long voyage. The latter, by the way, was nicknamed 'possessed' - I will explain how he searched for the money for his mad journey.
An eternal flame burns at the wall of the church of Santa Maria del Mar: it is a memory of the victims of the war with the army of the cruel French King Philip the Fifth. He captured Catalonia and took over the Spanish crown - you will understand what other reasons influenced the locals' animosity towards this ruler.
The interiors of the Palace of Music make a bright impression. The author of this and many other buildings in Barcelona is the architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. We will talk about his talented student - Gaudi - at Neri Square, hidden in the depths of the district. And then I will tell you about another person from the world of art - Picasso: once he didn't have enough money to pay for dinner, and today he is known all over the world.
A string of stories
These are just a few of the tales you will hear on the walk. Near the Alchemist's house, you will learn about the tragic love of a young girl. The anarchist Salvador Santiago left scars on the 'body' of the Liceu Theater and in the hearts of the Catalans. The courtyard of the Inquisition is a memory of the first great inquisitor of Spain. The columns of the Temple of Augustus will tell you about the Roman era. Each story will take its place in the chronicles of Barcelona, and together they will paint a picture of its past before you.
