What to Expect
Landmarks and Hidden Corners of Valencia
Of course, your first encounter with Valencia won't be complete without the Cathedral - here is where the Holy Grail chalice brought from the Vatican is kept, depicted by Da Vinci in "The Last Supper" fresco. Next, you will visit the Basilica of the Virgin and understand the strategic positioning of churches in the city. We will climb the balcony of the City Hall and recall the legend of the bat - the symbol of the city. Along the way, you will encounter the Towers of Quart, the baroque Marquis of Dos Aguas Palace, and the Silk Exchange, where I will talk about the Valencia silk production. If you wish, we will visit the Central Market and the colorful Carmen neighborhood, see a 13th-century church, ruins of an ancient Roman city, and walk around the narrowest house in Europe. To conclude the walk, we will see buildings inspired by Gaudi that Valencia architects created.
Local Gastronomy - from Markets to Restaurants
Along the way, we will not only discuss Valencia's history and traditions: I will talk about the products the region is famous for - local fish, seafood, vegetables and fruits, cheeses, and, of course, wine. Don't rush to make purchases at the central markets - we will leave those gastronomic spots to the tourists. I will show you where to buy the finest Valencia delicacies at pleasant prices, recommend a restaurant that serves authentic paella and Spanish tapas, and reveal some secret establishments where mostly locals go. And in the middle of our intensive walk, we will definitely take a break for Agua de Valencia - the famous cocktail based on cava and orange juice.
As a bonus from me, you will learn where locals eat delicious food at relatively affordable prices. I have prepared a gastronomic map of Valencia for you, which by the way, will be regularly updated!
