About this experience
You will explore the picturesque French countryside - the province of Picardy, which has carefully preserved centuries-old architectural monuments. You will see the luxurious interiors of Second Empire palaces, touch the secrets of the Bonaparte dynasty, learn about the tragic fate of Pierrefonds Castle. Wander through the ancient streets of Compiegne and observe the slow pace of local life.
What to Expect
Pierrefonds Castle. Louis of Orleans built this powerful fortress at the end of the 14th century. After his death and several wars, it turned into ruins. The castle only found a chance for a new life in the 18th century, falling into the hands of Napoleon III. We will definitely walk through Pierrefonds and in the echoing emptiness of the halls, we will hear echoes of the luxurious receptions held by the emperor here.
Compiegne. This charming French town became famous thanks to the royal palace, built on the edge of the Compiegne forest. It was the residence of French kings, then an abbey, and then the city itself grew. We will visit the royal palace. You will learn a lot about the lives of Napoleon I and Napoleon III, for example, what favorite amusements the emperors indulged in at the castle and what lavish banquets they hosted.
