About this experience
The church where Louis XV and Maria Leszczyńska were married, the exquisitely refined boudoir of Marie Antoinette, the room where Napoleon signed his abdication from the throne, and other intriguing beauties of Fontainebleau.
Fontainebleau is a rich, complex, amazing palace that represents a true summary of the history of France. Almost all the great monarchs left their mark on Fontainebleau: Francis I, Henry of Navarre, Catherine de Medici, Louis XIV, Napoleon Bonaparte.
The appearance of the Fontainebleau castle can be attributed to the love of French kings for hunting, and its decoration and grandeur - to the pleasure with which French kings collected works of art within the walls of the family residence.
It is in Fontainebleau that kings once admired the famous Mona Lisa. Countless rooms of the palace, which seem to have no end, keep the memory of masters who once worked here, invited to France by Francis I and Henry II: Rosso (a student of Michelangelo), Primaticcio, Cellini, Serlio, Ambroise Dubois, Toussaint Dubreuil, Antoine Caron.
Program
We will see:
- Napoleon's museum and some of the items that once belonged to Napoleon and members of his family;
- luxurious and amazing Renaissance-era apartments painted with frescoes by Rosso and Primaticcio - the ballroom and gallery of Francis I;
- the exquisitely refined boudoir of Marie Antoinette;
- the room where Napoleon signed his abdication from the throne;
- the hall where Marie de Medici, in the presence of a crowd of courtiers and King Henry of Navarre, gave birth to Louis XIII;
- the church where Louis XV and Maria Leszczyńska were married.
You will learn many interesting facts: for example, why Henry of Navarre said that behind his codpiece was a bone and why Maria Leszczyńska is often compared to Cinderella. Or that Catherine de Medici was the first queen who, accompanying men on a hunt, rode a horse, armed with a crossbow and in an 'amazon' position.
