About this experience
You will stroll through the picturesque Stresa, which from a small fishing village in the 18th century turned into a fashionable resort for aristocrats and monarchs, as well as a favorite resting place for musicians, artists, and writers from all over the world. You will be impressed by the luxurious villas and Art Nouveau hotels, the tranquility of local life, and the view of Lake Maggiore from above. By ferry, you will travel from Stresa to Pescatore Island, walk through its charming narrow streets, and learn about the life of local fishermen.
What to expect
Stresa - the 'queen' of Lake Maggiore
You will walk along the long promenade Corso Umberto I, famous for its magnificent surrounding landscapes. Enjoy the views of the famous islands in the Borromean Gulf against the backdrop of hills and mountain peaks of the Prealpine zone. I will show you the magnificent buildings of several historic hotels located along the shore in the city center. You will visit the luxurious Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees or Regina Palace, which have been around for over 150 years, stroll through the garden with fountains, and have a cup of coffee in a place where monarchs and celebrities from around the world have been. Climb to a fashionable rooftop bar with a pool and see a 360-degree breathtaking panorama of Lake Maggiore from a bird's eye view. You will also taste the delicious cookie dedicated to the queen and learn the history of its origin.
A walk on the charismatic fishing island
By boat, you will arrive at Pescatore - one of the Borromean Islands. Walk through the ancient streets of the colorful village, visit a fisherman's house, feel the scents of hanging nets, and see the life of island living. Visit the ancient and unique island church, famous for its rare frescoes from the 15th-16th centuries. We will talk about the history of these paradise places and their great guests. I will share a romantic legend about the Borromeo family and tell you about the construction of a baroque palace and gardens amid the waters of the great lake. Additionally, you will see how simple fishermen and wealthy nobles lived on small plots of land. I am sure you will have fond memories of this idyllic place for a long time!
