About this experience
Amazing and proud Svaneti, lost in the mountains, is a land of a thousand towers, incredibly beautiful nature, and ancient history. One can admire this corner of Georgia endlessly. I will show you the main attractions - the frozen in time village of Ushguli and the colorful surroundings around it, stunning landscapes of Mestia, and the 'cardiogram' of the Caucasian mountains. I will also tell you about the traditions and customs of the local people.
What to expect
Our two-day tour will start at 9:00 in Kutaisi.
Day 1
- Dadiani Palace of Megrelian Princes. In the Samegrelo region, we will visit a palace with original architecture. You will learn many interesting facts: how one of Napoleon's death masks disappeared, what European connections the Dadiani princes had, and other fascinating facts.
- Landscapes of Svaneti. The forests, lakes, and mountains of this region are incredibly beautiful in all seasons! Along the way, we will stop at waterfalls to take colorful photos. At the Inguri Reservoir, you can take an interesting tour: go inside the HPP and watch a movie about the construction of this structure.
- Mestia. This is the main town of Svaneti. Here, we will admire the UNESCO-listed towers and visit one of them - the one where the house-museum of the famous Svan mountaineer Mikhail Khergiani is located.
- Restaurant. After checking into the hotel, you will enjoy an atmospheric evening with folk songs, dances, and local dishes.
Day 2
- Cable car and morning landscapes of Mestia. You will admire the snow-capped mountain peaks, which are called the 'cardiogram' of the Caucasus ridge.
- Tower of Love. We will meet it on the way. We will climb to the very top, where you will hear a beautiful legend... of course, about love.
- Ushguli. The high-mountain village at 2200 m above sea level is the main location of the second day. Ushguli is a journey back in time. Here, churches, houses, streets, bridges, and towers from the reign of Queen Tamar have been preserved. You will hear interesting legends and stories about the traditions and customs of this land. And you will also enjoy the delicious kubdari (flatbread with meat), which must be tasted in Ushguli. Why here - you will find out on the trip.
- And then we will return to civilization - through Mestia back to Kutaisi.
