During the tour, you will visit one of the towers and a makhubi from the 11th century - a traditional Svan house. Learn about the history, way of life, and customs of the local people. What to Expect
Explore the village and admire the landscapes in Mestia. Visit the famous Svan tower and ancient house. Enter the house-museum of the legendary alpinist Mikhail Khergiani. To cap it off, I will show you where you can watch the Svan film 'Dede,' based on real events. The movie has won 28 international film festivals, including the Asian 'Oscar'.
All the while, you will immerse yourself in the history, traditions, and customs of our magical Svaneti.
- I will explain the special foundation of the towers that gave them extra stability. You will learn why the towers were built at an angle and how and when they were used.
- Discover the lifestyle in traditional Svan houses, the layout of living spaces, and the designated area for the head of the family.
