About this experience
Few people know that Egypt is considered the cradle of monasticism. Here are some of the oldest Christian abodes in the world - the Monasteries of Saint Paul and Anthony. During the excursion, you will learn about the lives of the holy men and the daily life of the monks, as well as visit places where pilgrims from all over the Christian world gather.
What to Expect
Monastery of Saint Anthony
This is the oldest monastery in Egypt, founded in the 4th century AD. Saint Anthony was not only a renowned preacher, but also an amazing healer. People came to him to heal physical and spiritual wounds. You will see the cave where the saint lived for 40 years, and a small church in the rock, the entrance to which is closed by a round stone. You will also visit the Monastery of Saint Anthony and learn about the lifestyle of that time. And then you will visit the spring - here you can try the holy water or take some with you.
Monastery of Saint Paul
Saint Paul also lived for several decades in a cave, near which the monastery was built. Inside, you will see unique icons, wall paintings from the 12th-14th centuries, and various household items used by the monks. You will also visit the church at the abode and its lush green garden.
