About this experience
Dublin is not just the setting of 'Ulysses', but also an active participant. Join me on a journey along the route of the book's main character, Leopold Bloom. This is the best way to get to know both the novel and the city. 'When I die', Joyce wrote, 'Dublin will be able to reconstruct me from my book'. Let's do it together!
What to Expect
'Ulysses': Brilliant and Paradoxical
'Ulysses' is the most complex work of the 20th century, a modernist masterpiece and an enigma to many generations of critics. A novel about Dublin and Dubliners, written outside the island from memory, it describes one simple day in the life of the main character, Leopold Bloom. What did Joyce do that divided the world into those who adore him and those who detest him? Why was the publication of the novel banned in the USA? Why is 'Ulysses' now on the shelf of almost every Irish person, yet only 1% of the island's residents have read it? We will discuss all of this on the tour.
Walking in the Footsteps of the Novel
I will take you by the hand and show you Joyce's Dublin: at the intersection of love and hatred, history and fiction, beauty and revulsion. We will see Leopold Bloom's house, the Joyce monument, the largest graffiti in Europe, and a real Joyce-inspired pub. We will conclude the walk at the pharmacy that has become a mecca for all fans of the writer. Reading or knowing 'Ulysses' before the tour is not mandatory. I will lay everything out before you and perhaps inspire you to get acquainted with Joyce's works in the future.
