About this experience
The goal of my tour is to acquaint travelers with the life of Leonardo Da Vinci in Milan and his legendary works: from the 'Last Supper', which changed the course of art history, to the 'Salle delle Asse' in Sforza Castle, and to the unique inventions that were far ahead of their time. You will gain a deeper understanding of Da Vinci's creativity and explore various facets of his monumental personality!
What to Expect
Master's Life in Milan
I will tell you about the childhood and evolution of the great genius, as well as delve deeply into Da Vinci's time in Milan. You will learn why Leonardo came to Milan from Florence, what he did in the city, and how Milan inspired Da Vinci's discoveries. For instance, it was the mists of Milan that inspired the genius to think about controlling air currents and creating a propeller... And that's just the beginning!
Visiting Da Vinci-related Sites
There are many places in Milan that will acquaint us with different aspects of Leonardo Da Vinci's life. During the tour, we will visit the most interesting ones:
- Monumental fresco 'The Last Supper' - the pinnacle of Leonardo's work, located in the refectory of the Dominican monks of the church Santa Maria delle Grazie. A legendary work that changed the course of Western painting.
- Leonardo Da Vinci Hall at the Museum of Science and Technology, where you will explore the master's design works, learn about their creation history, and examine Da Vinci's sketches covering human anatomy, optics, hydrography, geology, botany, and more.
You can also extend the duration of the tour and add other sites of your choice to the itinerary (or replace any site from the basic program). Allocate 1-2 hours for each museum visit, and 20-30 minutes for outdoor sites:
- Leonardo Da Vinci Vineyards Museum, with a vine planted in 2015, mentioned in the genius's will.
- Ambrosiana Pinacoteca with Da Vinci's painting 'Musician' and sheets of his sketches preserved in the 'Atlantic Codex' manuscript.
- Monument of the sculptor R. Manzi depicting Leonardo Da Vinci with his students and bas-reliefs showing moments of the genius's life in Milan.
- The largest horse sculpture in the world, created by Da Vinci based on the ideal beauty of the animal. It is believed that there were about 25 prototypes of the 'ideal' horse.
- Equally interesting are the locks on the Milan canals - ingenious hydraulic structures designed by Leonardo while in the service of Ludovico Sforza and installed under his watchful eye.
