About this experience
Combining a walk through the hot quarters of Milan with visits to the famous Milanese art galleries, we will talk a lot about art. We will try to capture the elusive smile of Leonardo da Vinci, feel the spirit of Michelangelo, see the 'truth of life' by Caravaggio, and appreciate one of the early works of Raphael Sanzio.
What to expect
Sforza Castle
Let's start the tour with a walk in the inner courtyard of Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco). We will admire an installation of 16 mulberry trees, which accurately reproduces the proportions of Leonardo's fresco in the Sala delle Asse. Inside the museum, we will pay attention to the sculptural group 'Rondanini Pieta' by Michelangelo - a grandiose embodiment of grief in stone. In the castle's Pinacoteca, we will explore the collections of works by Andrea Mantegna, Filippo Lippi, Lorenzo Lotto, and Antonio Correggio.
Brera and Ambrosiana Art Galleries
Our path will lead us to the doors of the great Brera Art Gallery. We will start the tour with the museum's masterpieces: 'Dead Christ' by Andrea Mantegna, 'Marriage of the Virgin' by Raphael Sanzio, 'Supper at Emmaus' by Caravaggio. Upon your request, we can pause for lunch at the historic museum café Fernanda and then proceed to the Ambrosiana Gallery. Here, I will draw your attention to 'Basket of Fruit' by Caravaggio, 'Lady with a Fan' by Ambrogio de Predis, 'Musician's Portrait' attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, 'Herodias' by Francesco del Cairo. We will discuss the deep symbolism of the paintings and the peculiarities of their creators' painting styles.
