About this experience
In the capital of Delhi, representatives of several religions live. You will visit the Jama Masjid, the vibrant Hindu temple Lakshmi-Narayan, the Christian cathedral of the Sacred Heart, the Sikh gurdwara, and the small Buddhist temple of Birla. Observe the rituals of the parishioners and learn many interesting facts about each faith.
What to expect
Jama Masjid. This is the largest mosque in India, which has become the hallmark of Old Delhi. You will uncover when, by whom, and under what circumstances it was built.
Lakshmi-Narayan Temple. A traditional Indian temple built in the early 20th century and dedicated to the two gods Lakshmi and Narayan. Here you will learn the basics of Hinduism: why local gods have many arms, what the dot on the forehead of Hindus means, and what puja is.
Birla Temple. We will visit a small cozy Buddhist temple. Did you know that Buddhism originated in India? It was here that Gautama handed over to the world the Four Noble Truths. We will share their content.
Sacred Heart Cathedral. A Christian temple built by the British in the early 20th century. It became another bright example of India's religious tolerance.
Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. Travelers often wonder what religion Indians in turbans profess. It's Sikhism! You will learn how it originated, why Sikhs carry daggers, and other interesting facts.
