About this experience
Delhi is a boiling pot of culture, religion, customs, and beliefs. Here you will see the 'Tower of Victory', the Red Fort where Conan Doyle's hero strolled, the gleaming Lotus Temple, and the Garden of Five Senses - an oasis amidst bustling Delhi. I will tell you about the city's changing architecture, and behind it - the life and culture of its inhabitants. And to taste India, we will visit a secret cafe where you will explore national dishes and understand the language of spices.
What to expect
Main Temples of Delhi
We will start our acquaintance with the ancient city from Humayun's Tomb - the very first Mongolian mausoleum in Delhi, built in the mid-16th century. You will learn why it is often confused with the Taj Mahal and how these magnificent structures are connected. Then, you will stroll through the park with fountains and hear why the tomb was built in the middle of four gardens, washed by water. You will also see the Cathedral Mosque, which is considered the main one in Old Delhi.
Architecture and Conan Doyle
To trace the development of India's architectural style, we will visit Qutub Minar - a brick minaret built by several generations of the Delhi Sultanate. You will understand how the city's architecture changed and why the construction was delayed. Find out why Qutub Minar was called the 'Tower of Victory' and unravel the mystery of the seven-meter iron column, the only surviving part of the ancient Vishnu temple. Stroll through the Red Fort of the Great Mongols era and learn what the heroes of Conan Doyle's detective did on its territory.
Meditations and Spices
You will see the main temple of modern Delhi - the revitalized white Pentelic marble in the form of a blooming lotus flower. And then we will head to the Garden of Five Senses: an oasis in the center of bustling Delhi, a beautiful park built among rocks. Here you will walk along blooming shrubs and water bodies, and I will tell you how the people of India relax and rejuvenate in the big city.
Genghis Khan said: 'If I knew how to handle spices like the Indians, I would have conquered the world'. To test this, we will visit a secret cafe where you will taste national dishes from different regions of India. I will tell you which spices local women use every day and share recipes of Indian cuisine.
