What to Expect
As you stroll through the center, you will see Giotto's bell tower and the golden gates of the Baptistery, admire the dome of the Florence Duomo - a brilliant creation by Filippo Brunelleschi. You will learn about how people lived in medieval tower houses, talk about Dante, and peek into the church where he was married. You will also visit the amazing church of Orsanmichele, which for centuries combined the role of a granary and a temple. And then you will head to the main city square - Piazza della Signoria, with its famous Palazzo Vecchio - the city hall, pass by the Uffizi Gallery to the Arno riverbank and climb to the Old Bridge.
Then you can return to the Old Town and, walking through the ancient main streets to the New Market, stop here to buy leather souvenirs, also not forgetting to toss a coin for luck into the Bronze Boar Fountain. Or, if you wish, we will cross the bridge and continue to Oltrarno to the Pitti Palace - the new residence of the Medici and the largest palace in Florence.
