About this experience
Where does modern Western civilization begin? Of course, with the 'eternal Athens'! We will climb the Acropolis, appreciate the famous Parthenon, and wander through the labyrinth of the historic center. You will learn where the hermit lived on the roof of an ancient temple, when tomatoes began to be grown in Greece, and other non-trivial facts about the city.
What to Expect
History and Legends of the Acropolis
Through the grand Propylaea entrance, we will reach the Acropolis - the sacred hill of the ancient Greeks. We will examine the Temples of Athena Nike, Parthenon, and Erechtheion, admire the magnificent panorama of the city from above, and see the world's first theater of Dionysus. We will also walk along one of the oldest streets in Europe, which has never changed its name. I will tell you how the Acropolis appeared, where Poseidon struck with his trident, and how 'plague spoke' in Athens.
Walk around the Old Town
We will explore the Anafiotika district - an unexpected example of Cycladic architecture in the heart of the capital. You will learn about the features of this style and where else you can see it. In the picturesque quarters of Plaka and Monastiraki, you will admire the masterpieces of religious construction from the Byzantine and Ottoman empires.
