About this experience
Palace, prison, and then a museum - all of this is Bargello, which will impress you no less than Uffizi, but without the crowds of tourists. You will admire sculptures by Michelangelo and Donatello, masterpieces made of glazed clay and Medici porcelain, collections of weapons and Renaissance era textiles, to once again see that art and Florence are synonymous.
What to Expect
Florentine Art and Artifacts
Prepare to immerse yourself in the delicate world of the Renaissance era. We will explore the sculptures of masters who managed to 'bring to life' marble: Michelangelo, Cellini, Donatello, and Verrocchio. We will touch upon collections of ancient weapons and textiles from the Renaissance era, talk about the so-called Medici porcelain and Florentine glazed clay. Additionally, you will see a golden florin, which once served as the unofficial world currency, like the American dollar does today. And in the halls of applied arts, you will appreciate antique jewelry and rare items made of ivory, silver, and tabletop bronze.
Secrets of Bargello Museum
Each exhibit at Bargello holds not just one intriguing story - many of them will be revealed to you during the tour. I will tell you how the palace turned into a prison, and then became a national museum. I will show you art objects that remember the city's owners - the Medicis and the Lorraine dukes. You will learn why items made of Florentine glazed clay do not require restoration to this day. And, of course, you will see the famous wooden crucifix: I will tell the story of this exhibit, attributed to Michelangelo himself.
