About this experience
For travelers staying in the vicinity of Budva, the southern coast of Montenegro often remains a mystery. To explore this picturesque region, we will visit the colorful Bar and pirate Ulcinj, take a photo break at the bohemian island of Sveti Stefan, and capture the fantastic sunset on Velika Beach.
What to Expect
Sveti Stefan - Montenegro's Postcard
Along the way to the southern coast, we will take an atmospheric photo break at the 'wonder island' Sveti Stefan, which has been favored by politicians, Hollywood stars, and aristocrats from around the world since the mid-20th century - from Marilyn Monroe to Queen Elizabeth II. You will admire the red tiled roofs against the blue sea, learn how the Slavic fortress-fortress turned into an elite private resort on the island connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, and of course, take spectacular photos of one of Montenegro's landmarks.
Old Bar and Pirate Ulcinj
Next, we will visit Bar - a city steeped in history and seemingly taken from fairy tales. In the Old Town, I will tell you why the flourishing settlement behind the fortress walls turned into ruins and show the surviving buildings reminding of Bar's turbulent history. Those interested can visit traditional coffee shops, souvenir, and antique shops. Then we will head to Ulcinj - one of Montenegro's most mysterious and ancient cities. The legends of Ulcinj are truly worth attention, as in the not-so-distant past, the city was a haunt for pirates who captured prisoners. You will see evidence such as slave chambers and the square of the slave market as you stroll through Ulcinj's streets.
Sunset on a Volcanic Beach
The southernmost point of our journey will be the magnificent Velika Beach made of the finest volcanic sand, which stretches like a dark gray ribbon all the way to the border with Albania. Here you can relax, swim, and witness one of the most beautiful sunsets in Montenegro.
