About this experience
In this area, someone is constantly digging in the ground in search of salt. What? No, it's not what you thought! Oh, you're from St. Petersburg, then it's understandable why such associations... Now to the point: in Yerevan, there is an active salt mine at a depth of 235 meters. In its depths, there is a hospital where they treat with salt - and this is not an alternative therapy. Are you ready to descend deep down and see everything with your own eyes?
What to expect
The special lift, cage, will lower us to a depth of 235 meters. Everything here is real: miners work, mine carts run. The chief engineer will tell you:
- What they originally planned to find underground
- How the salt was formed
- Where it goes after extraction
- What awaits the mine when the salt reserves are depleted
- And much more!
At -235 meters starts complete schizophrenia: interiors resembling an abandoned metro combine with billiards, table tennis, hospital beds, and some strange curtains... The thing is, in the mine, salt is not only mined, it is also used for treatment - in the underground medical center for patients with asthma. You will see all of this as well.
Is it safe there? Is this tour suitable for me?
If you don't have claustrophobia, then feel free to join! You can even bring children along. Yes, salt mining involves underground explosions. But in the area where the tour takes place, such work is no longer carried out - which allowed organizing guided tours here and the medical center.
