About this experience
Welcome to one of the most interesting and multi-layered cities in Armenia! At a friendly breakfast in the form of a master class, you will delve into the secrets of Armenian cuisine and feel the local color. And then get lost in the streets of old Gyumri, examining tuff houses, exploring the cultural layers of the city, and immersing yourself in its legends.
What to expect
Armenian breakfast: culinary master class
As a connoisseur of Armenian cuisine, I will introduce you not only to the history of Gyumri, but also to its traditional dishes. Instead of talking about "special herbs that only grow in my grandmother's village" or "Armenian ingredient without which the dish will not turn out", together we will cook tzhvjik, trout in lavash, arishtu, tolma, or other Armenian dishes of your choice. While cooking, I will share local secrets, talk about the specifics of Armenian cuisine, and then we will enjoy a tasty and fun breakfast with a glass of excellent Armenian wine.
Explore the "three faces" of Gyumri
After refreshing ourselves, we will go on a sightseeing walk that will reveal all three cultural layers of the city - imperial Alexandropol, Soviet Leninakan, and modern Gyumri. We will stroll through the streets of old quarters past houses made of black and red tuff, talk about the life of the provincial Alexandropol in the 19th century. We will visit Vartanants Square and examine the amazing church of the "Seven Wounds" with three altars - Armenian, Orthodox, and Catholic. At the end of the walk, we can stop for a cup of coffee at the unusual bakery Aregak, where the President of Armenia sometimes visits.
Who is this walk for
Those who find themselves in Gyumri for the first time, as well as anyone who loves to get to know a new country through its national cuisine.
