About this experience
The cemetery does not necessarily have to be a place of sorrow. Pere-Lachaise is a real open-air museum, full of secrets and mysticism. I will immerse you in the special atmosphere of this amazing place, knowledge of which I have been collecting for years. My tours are a mix of history and folklore. Despite the tragedy of some characters' fates, there will be funny moments with a touch of dark humor.
What to expect
Cemetery walk
Throughout the route, we will make about forty stops. We will visit the graves of Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison, Frederic Chopin, Marcel Proust, and other celebrities. I will show you the columbarium, crematorium, 'garden of memories,' monuments to the victims of World War II, and the ensemble 'Monument to the Dead.' I will introduce you to the furry inhabitants of the cemetery - the cats.
Facts, anecdotes, and love notes
I will tell you about the history of the cemetery's establishment and the famous people buried here. You will learn about the marketing trick the authorities of Paris resorted to in order to make this place popular. I will explain the essence of rituals and traditions, for example, why potatoes and playing cards are placed on graves and at which monument you need to leave a love note in a hat to meet your destiny.
Organizational details
If you want to participate in local traditions and rituals, bring flowers, a brush or pencil, a love note, a playing card, and a potato with you.
