About this experience
If the tourist 'cover' of Siem Reap is ancient temples and Cambodian lakes, then the true face of the city will be revealed to you in its authentic neighborhoods. I will take you to the magical Psar Leu market, where you can get lost among stalls with colorful attire, spices, and precious items. I will tell you about the traditions of the Khmers, their mentality, and way of life. But most importantly, I will help you feel the atmosphere of Siem Reap, seeing it through the eyes of the locals.
What to Expect
Wonders and Spices of Psar Leu Market
You can't imagine a better place to immerse yourself in the weekdays of Siem Reap than the authentic Psar Leu market (also known as Upper or Yellow), spread over two quarters! You will immediately understand that you are in the heart of the city: walk through bustling market rows, examine unusual items, and meet local artisans. I will help you find, examine, and buy interesting items made of precious metals, traditional handmade clothing, Cambodian delicacies, and of course, the best spices in the city.
Khmer Temples and the Dark Past of the City
The religious traditions of the Khmers will be revealed at the ancient 10th-century Krishna temple and the temples of the Angkor period. By the way, nearby you will see a place that every Khmer visits at least once in their life. At the Wat Thmei pagoda, dedicated to the memory of genocide victims, we will talk about the sad pages of Cambodia's history, the period of civil war, and the cooled and rusted weapons under the rain will lead to philosophical thoughts.
Colonial Aesthetics of Cambodia
Walking through one of the city's oldest districts, you will delve into the colonial era of the 19th century when European trends and style prevailed in Cambodia. We will have lunch at an amazing national restaurant and try to choose the most delicious ice cream out of 36 varieties. And the walk-immersion will end with dances or... meditation in the heart of Siem Reap.
