About this experience
We are heading to one of the best museums in New York – and to one of the most mysterious periods in history. The Middle Dark Ages (spoiler – they were named so only in the 14th century). You will learn how these prejudices originated and how historians debunk established myths. Get acquainted with masterpieces of art in a European castle on American soil and take a stroll through a strange garden.
What to Expect
This journey through time will take place within the walls of medieval monasteries. With a small clarification: only some parts of the museum complex are original (these are fragments from Catalonia and France), while the entire building is the ingenious project of the 20th-century architect Charles Collins. Here, you will:
- Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the romantic era of beautiful ladies and faithful knights – recreated thanks to the American sculptor George Bernard (a pupil of the famous Rodin) and the family of the most famous philanthropists – the Rockefellers.
- Visit the apothecary's garden. In the inner courtyard, you can find plants used in medicine and magical rituals during the Middle Ages.
- Make a wish in the Unicorn Room. This creature has always been associated with wonders!
- Feel the spirit of the Middle Ages and perhaps discover something new within yourself as you contemplate the masterpiece of the collection – the triptych 'Annunciation' by Robert Campin.
- And enjoy the play of colors on the stained glass windows from the chapel of the Austrian castle Ebenzadorf.
