Civita di Bagnoregio is an extraordinary town forgotten on top of a high hill in the Italian province of Viterbo not far from Rome. The city was founded over two and a half thousand years ago by the Etruscans. The settlement existed in ancient times and the Middle Ages, but in 1695 an extremely strong earthquake struck the area, cutting off the city from the rest of the world. Therefore, the surviving residents were forced to leave it. For several centuries now, this city has been called dying. Time seems to have stopped there. It is so striking that at first it may seem like you have stepped onto the set of a historical film!
