Golden Age of Riga
Riga is considered the world capital of Art Nouveau - there are about 800 buildings with elements of Art Nouveau preserved here! We will walk through the streets of the Big Riga Center, which emerged from the second half of the XIX century. This time was truly 'golden' for the city: Riga was rapidly developing, many monumental and beautiful buildings in the eclecticism style were constructed, followed by Art Nouveau. I will tell you about significant architects, about the principle of city development and its role within the Russian Empire. You will learn to distinguish between the sub-styles of Art Nouveau and understand the different symbolism on the buildings of that time. We will also have the opportunity to visit several beautiful Riga entrances.

Not just Art Nouveau
There are many wooden buildings preserved in the city - I will explain why this is the case and show the most interesting examples. You will witness history firsthand, observing how wooden houses (suburbs) transition to monumental stone buildings. And learn how Riga became the fifth city of the Russian Empire. We will talk not only about architecture, but also about life in Latvia. And if desired, we can extend the route and walk to the railway embankment, where wooden houses of ordinary people are preserved.
