About this experience
Luxor is an amazing city. It is the capital of an ancient civilization, where famous pharaohs such as Hatshepsut, Ramesses, Seti, Thutmose, and Tutankhamun lived and ruled. Religious theories and mythologies that defined Egyptian culture were created here. Grand temples, statues, and ancient tombs - on a sightseeing tour, you will discover a true open-air museum before you.
What to expect
We will pick you up early in the morning from the hotel, and then head to the 'city of palaces'. During the tour, you will ride through the streets, observing the locals, and hear the history of Luxor, as well as learn about local customs and traditions. Get ready to see all the most interesting:
- Dendera Temple, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the patroness of motherhood, love, and music. It was built about 4000 years ago and restored by the Greeks about 2200 years ago. The temple impresses with ceiling paintings in the columned hall, which represent astrological symbols, seasons, and zodiac signs.
- Coptic Monastery of St. George the Victorious. It was founded in the 4th century by Emperor Constantine and St. Helena, similar to the famous St. Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai Peninsula.
- Valley of the Kings, where the tombs of great rulers are located. You will visit several of them, recall the history of Tutankhamun, and discuss future archaeological discoveries expected in the Valley.
- Temple of Ramesses III - one of the most impressive and well-preserved temples of Ancient Egypt. It served as a place of worship to the god Amun and was a symbol of the power and grandeur of pharaonic authority. You will see numerous images and paintings on the walls depicting scenes from the life of Ramesses III, battles, rituals, as well as images of gods and goddesses.
- Majestic Temple of Hatshepsut, which you may know from history textbooks. Hatshepsut was the only female pharaoh in Ancient Egypt, and she was also called the 'Pharaoh-Builder'. Why? Let's discuss on the tour.
- Colossi of Memnon - two massive stone statues depicting Pharaoh Amenhotep. We will tell you about their purpose and explain why one of them is known as the 'singing at dawn'.
