About this experience
The concentration of significant art objects in the small city of Florence is incredible. It's no wonder that the Italian Renaissance originated here. You will learn how it happened and what led to this event. Admire the grand palaces and basilicas, uncover the architectural features of the era. The names of Michelangelo, Donatello, Giotto, Leonardo, and other art titans will resonate throughout my storytelling.
What to Expect
Understanding the Renaissance era
Florence is firmly established in world history as the 'cradle of the Renaissance'. On the tour, I will explain why the Italian Renaissance was born here, in the capital of Tuscany. You will learn about the historical and economic prerequisites of the great art period, the spread of the Renaissance throughout Europe, and its influence on European and Russian culture. And of course, we will talk about the legendary Medici family - the patrons referred to in Florence as the 'godfathers of the Renaissance era'.
Masterpieces of Florentine architecture
You will admire the main attractions of Florence: the Town Hall building Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia dei Lanzi on the Piazza della Signoria, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore resembling a luxurious jewel box, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Medici palaces, as well as the bridges and buildings of medieval markets and churches. I will tell you about the construction techniques and tools that existed before the Renaissance. And how Filippo Brunelleschi changed the course of architectural history and the technologies he developed for building the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore. In addition, you will discover interesting details from the lives of Donatello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo, and learn about their relationships.
