All colors of Batumi
About this experience
In Batumi, travelers risk getting lost in its colorful diversity, which is not surprising - the city's fate intertwines many roads and cultures. On my walk, you will learn about the history, explore the religious architecture, stroll through the modern Wonderland Park, and feel the atmosphere of the city's heart on Batumi Boulevard. Throughout the walk, my stories will be interspersed with tales from the lives of the locals and legends - those known only to the people of Batumi.
What to expect
Immersion in the past
Beginning with Batumi's late 19th-century city park - you will learn its history and see the cypress tree planted by Emperor Alexander III. Of course, I will talk about the emergence of the ancient Georgian city, ethnography, nature, and archaeology of Adjara. Opposite the park, we will peek into the old courtyard where Esenin lived and worked. Additionally, you will meet Medea, who broke through the Georgian window to Europe, and learn about the poet Ilia Chavchavadze at his monument.
Interweaving of cultures and religions
The residents of Batumi are a multitude of communities with their own religions, customs, and traditions. You will get acquainted with the iconic religious sites that reflect this diversity and understand how each culture managed to preserve its uniqueness. The walk includes the luxurious Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary - a former Catholic church, the Orthodox churches of St. Nicholas and St. Barbara, a Jewish synagogue, a Protestant church unknown to tourists, a semi-ruined Armenian Catholic church, the Muslim Ortachala Mosque, and the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Saviour.
Perfect spots for strolls
In Batumi Wonderland Park, you'll find scarce greenery but witness extraordinary modern structures - the Alphabet Tower and the sculpture of Ali and Nino, linked to a love story, and uncover the secret of the old Batumi lighthouse. We'll end the walk at Seaside Park, or Batumi Boulevard, where unusual sculptures and fresh sea air await you.
