About this experience
Rio de Janeiro is famous for its luxurious beaches, but few visitors venture beyond the crowded and not-so-clean Copacabana and Ipanema. Exploring the non-touristy western Rio, you will discover places where the true beauty of the Brazilian coast shines and relax on the city's best beaches!
What to Expect
Exploring Western Rio
Natural beauties and amazing beaches of the city are not located in the southern, most popular tourist zone. Besides, they are hard to reach by public transport. But with a car and a local expert - easily! The best spots of Rio are to the west, driving along the entire coastline, where the beach stretch extends more than 40 km.
Best City Beaches, viewpoints, and lunch in a seafood restaurant
- First stop - at the beginning of Barra da Tijuca district. Here you will find the local Venice - islands, canals, boats, and mansions of the wealthy on hills.
- Next, you will drive along the waterfront of the fashionable district, see the longest beach, and stop in the Recreio area, where most of the natural beauties of the western city zone are concentrated. One of them is Pedra do Pontal on Recreio Beach, where the ocean recedes, forming a picturesque path to the mountain. If you wish, you can hike to the top for fantastic views!
- And finally, head to the two most beautiful, 'wild' beaches of Rio: Prainha and Grumari. They are surrounded by national parks and are not accessible by public transport. The road passes through a serpentine, revealing new incredible landscapes!
- You will also visit several viewpoints and, if desired, descend to another natural wonder - a natural pool in the rocks (known as the secret beach).
- And to conclude, enjoy lunch at a pleasant local restaurant overlooking the ocean, where they excellently prepare dishes from fresh seafood and fish.
- And, of course, during the day you will have enough time to relax on one of your favorite beaches.
