What to expect
Former municipal administration offices, now the famous Uffizi Gallery, are one of the oldest museums in Europe. Over five hundred years have passed since Francesco I de' Medici created in the Uffizi a gallery 'of paintings, statues, and other precious objects'; the unique Medici collection continued to grow even after the decline of the dynasty.
What differentiates Giotto's art from that of his contemporaries? Why are there so many blondes in the paintings of 15th-century Florentine artists? Who was the seductive stranger whose beauty Titian immortalized in the still enticing image of Venus of Urbino? All these questions will be answered during the tour.
As we stroll through the museum halls, we will talk about the stages of development of visual arts, the fates of artists, and their heroes.
Optionally, during the break, you can enjoy tea/coffee in a bar with an unforgettable view of Piazza della Signoria.
